Exploring the impact of parenting styles on university students’ educational experiences in the Colombo district, Sri Lanka
(International College of Business and Technology, 2026) Samadhi, G.; Guruge, M.G
Parental involvement is essential, as parents act as the primary educators, significantly impacting children's educational journeys. This exploratory qualitative study focuses on how various parenting styles influence the educational experiences of university students in the Colombo District, Sri Lanka, by utilizing Baumrind’s Parenting Theory and Self-Determination Theory. It investigates student perceptions regarding parenting styles in relation to academic motivation and educational development. A volunteer sample of six students aged 20-30 years from Colombo District was recruited. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically, leading to the emergence of four key themes: 1) The role of supportive parenting in student growth, 2) Parental guidance versus student autonomy, 3) Parental expectations and lack of awareness, and 4) Cultural influences and challenging parenting practices. The findings reveal the complexities of both supportive and problematic parenting practices, alongside the impact of cultural factors on students' educational experiences. The study concludes with recommendations for future research and practical implications for parents, students, and higher education institutions.

Impact of change orders on cost and schedule in building projects within bahrain’s construction industry
(International College of Business and Technology, 2026) Fonseka, G.H.M.K.D.S.; Fonseka, G.H.M.K.D.S.
Change orders are a persistent challenge in Bahrain's construction industry, causing cost overruns and schedule delays. This study investigates their causes, impacts, and management practices within Bahrain's building projects to address the lack of local empirical evidence. Adopting a positivist and quantitative approach, data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to clients, consultants, contractors and public-sector professionals, yielding 98 valid responses. Statistical analysis using SPSS, including descriptive analysis and ANOVA, revealed that client and consultant-related issues, particularly scope changes, design errors and delayed approvals were the main causes. Cost overruns frequently exceeded 10%, while schedule delays typically ranged from 3 to 6 months. Current practices focus on procedural documentation rather than proactive prevention. The study concludes that clearer scope definition, pre-tender design completion, structured impact assessments and establishment of a project-level Change Control Board supported by wider use of BIM and estimating software are essential to reduce disruption.

Effectiveness of the communicative approach in enhancing English communication skills among grade 10 students
(International College of Business and Technology, 2026) De Meraal, E; Sooriyahetti W
This study intends to assess the impact of the Communicative Approach on learners’ fluency, accuracy and confidence in using English, along with their perceptions towards language learning through communicative activities while providing recommendations to other English language instructors for the effective integration of this approach in classroom lessons. It is constructivist and qualitative in nature and adopts the strategy of action research. Ten grade 10 students from ABC school were chosen based on purposive sampling. The data collection methods included structured interviews which were carried out at the termination of the tailored implementation plan over one month. The main findings of this study suggest that the Communicative Approach promotes a supportive learning environment while asserting the enhancement of a learner’s communicative skills in terms of natural speech and lexical development. It also presents the advancement of critical thinking skills and the awareness of the practical usage of target language in both academic and professional contexts.

Design And Implementation of An Esp32‑Based Wi‑Fi– Bluetooth Jammer for Examination and Public Safety
(International College of Business and Technology, 2026-02) Perera, P.P.V; Wijayawardhane, K.K.H.K
This paper presents the design and implementation of a simple, low‑cost device that can block Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth signals in a selected area to support safer and fairer environments. The device is built using an ESP32 microcontroller, two nRF24L01 modules with power amplifiers, a custom circuit board and a rechargeable battery pack. It operates in the 2.4 GHz band and reduces the ability of nearby devices such as smartphones, wireless headsets, and speakers to connect to networks. Tests in controlled indoor settings showed a practical working range of around 30 m, depending on the antenna and surrounding conditions. The work highlights both the practical benefits for examination security and public safety, and the need for careful use within national laws and ethical standards.

The Impact of Data Analytics on Fashion Design in Sri Lanka’s Fashion Retail Industry
(International College of Business and Technology, 2026-02-20) Hettiarachchige, Malsha Nadeeshani
This study investigates the impact of data analytics on fashion design within Sri Lanka’s fashion retail sector. The research explores three core analytical domains: trend forecasting, customer analytics, and sales analytics to assess their influence on design innovation and performance. A quantitative approach was used, employing a structured questionnaire distributed to 143 fashion designers across Sri Lankan retail brands. Results from correlation and regression analyses revealed that customer analytics and sales analytics significantly enhance fashion design success, while trend forecasting showed a weaker but positive effect. The study concludes that while Sri Lankan designers are increasingly integrating analytics into their workflows, full adoption remains limited due to infrastructural and knowledge gaps. These findings contribute to the global discourse on fashion analytics, offering insights for developing economies seeking to strengthen data-driven design practices.
